What is Page Rank?

Pagerank is the parameter which describes how important and reputed a page is on web. In short you can say PageRank is a “vote”, by all the other pages on the Web, about how significant a page is. Main support of pagerank is link provided to page. Google is also having same way of deciding page’s importance. It’s a method used by Google to determine a page’s relevance or importance. We will occasionally refer to PageRank as "PR". Higher the pagerank means higher the important of page e.g PR 6 site is more important then PR 2 site.

PageRank is also displayed on the toolbar of your browser if you’ve installed the Google toolbar ( from http://toolbar.google.com/). PR (green color line) is as show below in google toolbar.

Page rank is as show below on Google toolbar. But the Toolbar PageRank only goes from 0 – 10 and seems to be something like a logarithmic scale:

Toolbar PageRank
(log base 10)

Real PageRank

0

0 - 10

1

100 - 1,000

2

1,000 - 10,000

3

10,000 - 100,000

4

and so on...

How PR calculated?

Only Inbound links are the factor to calculate PR of any page. Where inbound link means links within that site and coming from outside the side; linking to that page. Here below is equation to calculate the PR of page “A”

PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + ... + PR(tn)/C(tn))

In the equation 't1 - tn' are pages linking to page A, 'C' is the number of outbound links that a page has and 'd' is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.

What exactly is criterion to decide, wether we should link to the partticular page or not.suppose if a page is having page rank of 5 and 10 out going links and another page is having page rank of 2 but only one outgoing link then, linking to which page is going to be benefitial? will be greatfull if u can answer soon.

According to equation PR 2 will be more beneficial even if site is having less PR. But Now Google not only see the PR it also check site's quality and if site is related to your site then only link will go to more powerful. So better to check which one is relevant to your site. And in case if you are going to do link exchange and your site is have more then PR2, then I prefer don't go with PR2 site even if it’s having one outgoing link. I hope you will be clear with my statement and also welcome for further queries.
    Thx for your precious question.

Manish, If u wants to optimize particular page or site. Then 1st find out which keyword will be best suit for optimizing for that page. And if page is new then first optimize page for less competitor keyword. Try to focus only1 to 2 keyword for each page. Optimize different keywords for all pages. Don't waste time to promote same keyword for more then one page. All above are the things to remember before optimization.
Now after selecting KW for a page, Put KW in title description and keyword anchor tags with different combinations. Also use KWs in content part with strength of 12%. For example if you want to optimize a page with KW – MP3 CD,

    Then you can use as:
Title as : MP3 CD – Media player
KeyWords as ="MP3 CD, media player, MP3 songs,………"
    Description as ="We provides world’s best MP3 CDs – domain_name"

It’s just a example for your ref. also put KWs in image’s anchor. Once you optimized a page. Now wait till google crawl your page. And for crawling that page, must have a link to that page so that google can get the way to reach that page. If your page is old one then wait for google’s next crawl.

I hope its clear to you and heartily welcome for your further queries....
